Supporting Pupil Wellbeing Through Therapeutic Interventions
WayMaker delivers trauma-informed, play-based programmes designed to support pupils’ emotional, sensory, and behavioural needs. Our school programmes, available across Northern Ireland particularly in Co Antrim, offering group play therapy, movement-based activities to improve attention, focus, and readiness to learn. By integrating these therapeutic interventions into the school day, we help children build resilience, self-regulation, and social-emotional skills while creating a positive learning environment.
Who Our Programmes Help
Our school programmes support pupils with a range of needs, including:
Children who have experienced trauma or adverse childhood experiences
Anxiety, stress, or emotional regulation challenges
Fidgeting, hyperactivity, or concentration difficulties
Sensory sensitivities affecting learning and participation
Social or behavioural challenges impacting classroom dynamics
By exploring the benefits of play therapy in schools, our interventions not only help individual pupils but can benefit the whole class, supporting self-regulation, focus, and a calmer learning environment.

Beyond the Senses Children’s Programme
This unique multi-sensory stimulation and emotional regulation programme is designed for children from three to eleven years old. The programme uses a combination of theory and interactive techniques that allows children to experience their individual sensory and emotional wellbeing within a group setting.
In particular, it would benefit children with sensory or emotional needs, children waiting for an assessment or children that have just been diagnosed and struggling. The programme will take children on a journey to explore a different sense with their imagination, self-regulation and develop listening skills. Children will have freedom of choice and allow them to role-play stressful situations in a safe environment.
The aims of the programme include:
Allow children to participate in a fun and enjoyable group with interaction from peers helping to increase social skills.
Explore and experience all senses in a safe space, learning sensory techniques to help children focus, keep calm and actively listen
Provide a tactile sensory experience unique to each child within the group
Learn fun theory-based activities for emotions, coupled with therapeutic play techniques
Create a safe and shared environment for all to learn, develop and grow at their pace.
Develop a body awareness through a variety of enjoyable tasks in relation to shape, size, texture and colour.
Enhance dexterity, fine motor skills and development of muscles alongside cognitive and emotional development.
